Dr. Sharianne Walker, Dean of Western New England University's College of Business, announced that the Western New England University chapter of Sigma Nu Tau has inducted five students and one Honorary Entrepreneur into this prestigious organization. Sigma Nu Tau is a national, academic honor society for entrepreneurship majors who perform well academically, and possess the traits of honor, integrity, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Sigma Nu Tau's mission is to promote, recognize, and reward academic excellence in entrepreneurship and to encourage and recognize the practice of principled entrepreneurship.

College of Business Announces Newest Cohen Scholars

College of Business Dean Sharianne Walker is pleased to announce the selection of three business students as the newest Cohen Scholars. Cohen Scholars serve as student ambassadors representing the College of Business at various events throughout the year, and receive an annual merit scholarship. In extending her congratulations, Dean Walker said "I am pleased to see these business students recognized for their high academic achievement and all-around excellence," and in expressing her gratitude to the program benefactors, Walker added that "Frances and Norman Cohen would be so proud to know that their generous gift has enabled a growing legion of students to be involved in a really special program that has become a proud tradition in the College of Business at Western New England."

Western New England University School of Law Team Wins Best Brief at National ABA Tax Challenge

Mitch Renfrew of Barkhamsted, CT and Ryan Hartnett of Whitesboro, NY, won "Best Written Submission" at the 19th Annual American Bar Association Law Student Tax Challenge. The competition was held during the Section of Taxation 2020 Midyear Tax Meeting on January 30-February 1, in Boca Raton, FL. The Western New England team was one of six finalists selected from more than 80 law schools nationwide to participate in the final J.D. Division rounds, where they presented oral arguments before a panel of distinguished tax lawyers and tax court judges. Each two-person team was challenged to solve a complex business problem that might arise in everyday tax practice. Teams are initially evaluated on two criteria: a memorandum to a senior partner and a letter to a client explaining the result.
