Maureen A. Pollet of Melville, NY, has recently received the CHAMPS/Life Skills Award of Excellence from Western New England University. Pollet is a senior graduating with a degree in Elementary Education - Psychology. Developed by the NCAA, CHAMPS/Life Skills program was created to enhance the quality of the student-athlete experience within the context of higher education. CHAMPS stands for Challenging Athletes' Minds for Personal Success. The program provides experiences and services designed to develop well-balanced lifestyles and encourage growth in decision-making, planning, and fulfillment of career and life goals. The five commitment areas of CHAMPS include academic excellence, athletic excellence, personal development, career development, and commitment to service.
