Peter Nassar Receives Skookum Award at Western New England University

Peter Nassar of Longmeadow,MA was recently named a recipient of the Grand Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Nassar was one of 15 outstanding students to receive an award at the ceremony.

Working towards a double major in Accounting and Finance, Nassar excels as much out of the classroom as in it. He is in his second year as President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and the first to have led his group in his junior year. PJ is a two-year co-captain of the men's tennis team and a life sills mentor.

Maintaining a 3.97 GPA, Nassar is a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma, Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Phi, Mortar Board, and Omnicron Delta Kappa honor societies. He is one of three inaugural Cohen Scholars. The Frances and Norman Cohen Endowed Scholars Program provides select College of Business students with a scholarship and an opportunity to act as ambassadors. He has also been recognized with the Dean Richard DiRuzza Emerging Leader Award and the Andrew J. Mulcahy Student leadership Award.

He is a founding member of the Civility Leadership Team and is a student representative to the board of Trustees' Student Affairs Committee.

Upon graduation, Nassar will continue his education by pursuing his Master's in Accounting before entering into public accounting.
