Joshua W. Griffith of Middleton Wins "Host of the Day" Award from Eastern States Exposition

2015 Dec 7

Western New England University junior and senior Criminal Justice students recently participated in a unique internship in collaboration with the West Springfield Police Department and Big E Security at this year's Eastern States Exposition (ESE). The internship opportunity allows students to work with the Big E's Guest Services department assisting fair goers in a number of ways while receiving class credit.

Four Western New England University students were recognized for their outstanding efforts. Damarr Duncanson of Springfield, MA, Joshua Griffith of Middletown, MA, Eric Koboski of South Windsor, CT, and Matthew Simard of North Smithfield, RI were honored with the Big E "Host of the Day" award.

The Host of the Day award is presented to those employees who demonstrate excellence in customer service when dealing with the fair going public. It recognizes employees, volunteers and other members of the Big E family who exemplify the fair's philosophy of positive customer relations. It has been part of the exposition's customer service program since 1989, established for individuals who go "above and beyond the call of duty" in their interactions with fairgoers.

Eastern States Exposition Chief Executive Officer, Eugene J. Cassidy had this to say as he presented the Host of the Day trophies to the students. "You guys have really, really set the bar. I want to thank you for the way you've bought into what we're doing and the way you comport yourself among all your compatriots because you're doing a wonderful job."

Exposition Director of Operations Gerard Kiernan said "It's quite evident to me and more importantly to Chief (Campurciani) that these young men and women that we have working for us during the fair bring a degree of skill and professionalism that really meets the standard that we are looking for at the exposition. We are happy to have them here and we're going to continue this partnership well into the future."
