Joseph T. Reder Commissioned as Second Lieutenant

Joseph Reder was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, Engineering Corps, upon completion of an Army Reserve Officer Training Corps program and graduation from Western New England University in Springfield, Massachusetts. Reder graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and has been commissioned to serve at Fort Lenard Wood, Missouri for further officer training.

Colonel John J. Driscoll was the commissioning officer who administered the oath. The ceremony was followed by the Silver Dollar Salute, a tradition in which newly commissioned officers hand a silver dollar to the first soldier who salutes them, typically someone instrumental in their upbringing, education, or training. Dozens of family members and friends were in attendance to celebrate this honor with the newly commissioned officers.

Reder was among eight cadets commissioned in the ceremony on May 20, 2016.
