John Abbott Awarded at Western New England University Student Media Festival

Western New England University sophomore John Abbott from Higganum, CT was among a group of 15 distinguished winners in the 14th annual Student Media Festival held in the Lyman and Leslie Wood Auditorium on the University campus. Abbott's music video entry "7 Years" took first place in both the Jury Award and the People's Choice Award Music Video categories. John also won first place in Short Film/Essay for "Sirens" and it didn't end there. It was a winning night for Abbott who took home 3 more awards. John's video "Wear Your Pants" took third place in both the Jury Award and the People's Choice Award PSA/Commercial category. Finally, John took home third place honors in the Jury Award T.V. News Report category for his entry "WNE Website."

The Student Media Festival is a competitive festival open to all students designed to give students the opportunity to express their creativity and production skills and to showcase and celebrate the work students have produced throughout the academic year.

The event is sponsored by the College of Arts and Sciences and the Department of Communication.

Abbott is majoring in Communication - Media Theory & Production at the University.
