Christina Andros Receives Skookum Award at Western New England University

2014 Jun 13

Christina Andros of Wilbraham, MA, was recently named a recipient of the Skookum Award, an honor presented by Western New England University's Alumni Association. The Skookum is awarded to students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in all their endeavors: academics, co-curricular activities, sports, and community service. "Skookum" is the Native American Chinook Indian word meaning "excellence." Andros was one of 15 outstanding senior students to receive the award.

A second year Doctor of Pharmacy candidate for 2017, Andros is one of the few students in the College of Pharmacy enrolled in the dual PharmD/MBA program. She has been recognized on the President's and Dean's List as well as the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Andros is the founder and past president of the Pre-Pharmacy club on campus. Last year, she served as the President elect of the Student Society of Health System Pharmacists (SSHSP) and the Student Political Network Liaison. She currently serves as the President of the SSHSP as well as the Policy Vice President of the American Pharmacists Association. A member of the Medical Reserve Corps, Andros works with the Big Y Pharmacy and at Baystate Medical Center's Inpatient Acute Care Pharmacy.

Last summer Andros traveled to Guatemala with her Global Health and Technology class to observe and develop ways to improve the country's healthcare system process.

She is extremely proud of her research which focuses on the exploration of the possible anti-microbial effects of cancer therapy agents with the goal of discovering new antibiotics to fight the high rate of antibiotic resistance. Andros has presented her research at conferences in San Francisco and Boston.

Upon graduation, Andros plans to pursue her goal of working in pharmacy administration.
